Papercuts

Papercuts are designs cut from a single sheet of paper (with, in this case, an Xacto knife and many blades), and mounted atop a colored background. Papercuts have been around as a folk art almost since the invention of paper, and have recently become more of a fine art. These are all original papercuts, created for specific occasions, and all have symbolic meaning. They usually illustrate and interpret a text in a style that is called "Visual Midrash". Midrash is a traditional Jewish way of interpreting text through storytelling. Visual Midrash interprets text visually and artistically. Many of my papercuts are in the shape of a hamsa, a Middle Eastern symbol of the hand of God, used as a good luck charm. I welcome custom commissions—for B'nei Mitzvah gifts & invitations, anniversaries, birthdays, ordinations or any other special occasion. Price will depend on amount of work involved.
Paper Sculpture

Paper Sculpture is created by designing, then coloring and cutting out pieces of paper and building them up into a 3-dimensional creation. I use either colored, hand-made papers or white paper that I airbrush to the desired color, and then assemble the pieces.
